IW while ball is in end zone uncovered?

They 100 percent called it an IW. But I’m thinking maybe it wasn’t really an IW because the ball was dead the moment it broke the plane by being knocked into the end zone by players in the field trying to secure the loose kick?

Maybe wrong explanation but right result?

The ball was never possessed by R before it reached the goal line, there for it is a DEAD ball and a TOUCHbACK at that point- if a whistle was blown then(which there was no whistle until much later in the play(which is not an actual IW but a delayed whistle). There was NO whistle while ball was anywhere near goal line. An IW would have led to several different scenarios depending on when it was blown - none of which would have placed ball at 20.

do you know the white hats signal for an IW?

someone that doesn't know the kicking rules, did not see ball cross goal or misconstrued something they heard may have thought it was an IW. but an IW would have led to a completely different scenario after said call.

What also could have happened was either Back, side or field judge or umpire could have said was that an IW(because they are not watching ball on a kickoff and neither is white hat under this years mechanic.
The way a whistle gets blown on a play like that when the crew realizes it should have been killed often appears as an IW, it sucks when a kid gets hurt on a play like that

So wait, are you telling me that people are crying foul and that the referees were cheating for a certain team, when the truth is, that person just did not know the right rules?

Shocked I tell you

When I used to officiate 20 years ago it was thumbs up with the arm stretched in front of you.

I had trouble seeing all the signals last night since white hat faced the home side (we were visitors) and it almost always seemed like some players were were grouped in my line of sight.

But... the sequence was this:

Kickoff is not handled properly
Ball bounces around
It apepars that the ball crossed the goal line, unpossessed.
It appears that kicking team recovered the ball in end zone.
Official on top of play signals Touchdown (I don't recall if white hat repeated TD call)
Teams go into PAT formation
White hat stops the game, gathers with some officials
White hat gathers officials together.
White hat goes to WJ sideline while umpire places the ball at the 20
White hat goes to Chalmette sideline
White hat heads back toward WJ sideline, looks to press box, says and signals something. White hat then gives the first down signal.
Chalmette offense and WJ defense come onto the field.
