I agree in principle, but in reality a salary floor does not work. What it does is cause owners to spend super heavy on 1 star player to hit the minimum and then goes with rookies to fill the other spots. It would suck for vets because it closes out the middle of the road players.

I guess one could argue it’s better, but is it really better if Pittaburgh signs a player like starling Marte to big bucks long term and then fills the rest of the roster with shite?

We need an NBA style soft cap where contract amounts are bargained pro ratas of revenue

That's a good point. Wonder how a minimum salary cap with a minimum cash spend per year could affect this. NFL has this to keep teams from underspending. Sure, you could just spread that 1 super star's salary around, but a lot of these guys want that larger bonus check up front.
