I hunt in South Texas a lot, and it's roughly a 10-11 hour drive. I usually just put my in a thick garbage bag, freeze it the day/night before, throw it in an ice chest with the valve open, cover it with ice, and put a new bag or two on depending on the melt. As far as mounting goes, I had a local do it for me for the one I've had mounted and had them ship it to my house.
