100% disagree. Don't get my wrong, I love the Grateful Dead, but I actually love Jerry Garcia Band and his solo stuff more than the dead. I'm pretty familar with his catalog. So you are saying that a guy that coverered so many bands and other artists in his solo work wouldn't want others to continue to play his music.

You don't think he would be super happy that bands like JRAD exist today that are collections of some of the best artists in the jamband world getting together to recreate his music in their own style.

And you don't think that Jerry would be completely honored to have someone like John Mayer fall in love with the Grateful Dead later in his career and stop what he is doing to pay tribute to his guitar work and music for the last 7 years? Just doesn't add up.

FYI - I'm not very familiar with John Mayer and have only seen him with Dead and Co over the last few years. I was completely shocked when it was announced that he was going to be the guitarist playing and singing Jerry. But when I read/saw the interview where he described how this came to be (stumbled onto their catalog), I understood a person finally getting the Dead and wanting to explore their music and style for many years. I'm sure this path that he has taken in his career will be very beneficial for the rest of his career.

Also - I've been impressed with how he has played and sang Jerry - he is a very talented guitarist and disagree with the whole premise of this thread. Not sure how a guy that can play Jerry Garcia as well as he does can be overrated :)
