LSU should have been using its resources and political clout to clean up the area around campus starting 30-plus years ago.

There is constant building and development by LSU on and near campus, so there is no reason they could not have improved those areas.

They could have built classrooms, student housing, parking garages, even some smaller sports facilities in some of those areas, or done some other things to attract private development and money.

They did purchase and demolish those old row houses on the edge of campus near the track field. They were full of students, ex students, and dope. Then they built those luxury apartments.
I bet if they thought it would be profitable for them they would expand even further. But obviously it wouldn’t be so tough luck.

With what money? Have you been in an LSU non-sports building lately. They are falling apart and have been for 20 years. They “fix” roof leaks by putting buckets to catch the rain water. They routinely run out of buckets and don’t have the money to buy new ones so they use trash cans.

To think that LSU has enough resources to clean up the hood around the campus and police/protect people when they are miles away from campus is just living in fantasy land.
