my daughter and I have a tradition of buying 5 or so egg sacks every year and hatching them. When I was in 3rd grade, my mom was big into organic gardening and made me do a report on them. We hatched a ton into her garden. Ive been fascinated with them ever since.
I rarely see any of the adults that we hatch but once every couple years I do. Last year I busted one hanging out on my hummingbird feeder, waiting for lunch. Another year, I was drinking beer outside and one crawled up my leg. No fear of me at all.

I found this egg sack in the yard a couple weeks ago.

I saw quite a few tiny, just hatched mantises one time. Little bitty things.
