Wow, that was that the prologue? It's the one thing I said I would would watch, but that was it? A reminder of the Lord of the Rings epic prologue and one of the most memorable beginnings to a movie ever: YouTube
But I guess a baby Galadriel having her paper boat sunk in Valinor is something to address and of primary importance, something that never happened as far as I'm aware in the books. That's the first thing they show us? It was cool seeing the Two Trees, but that was all they showed?
And they don't even show Feanor in the Oath of Feanor, and it's anticlimatic as all frick. I mean, when reading the Silmarillion, it's difficult to image Feanor and his sons not being surrounded by fire. Feanor and his sons were supposed to be completely erratic during this to point the point of slaying their own kin. But that's what we got.
Oh we just headed over to Middle Earth and that's it? And then it's like "yeah we had a few battles." That's really it? I honestly thought they'd at least make the prologue say 20 minutes since I think they needed to cover a lot of ground with the Trees and the Silmarils.
This is below my wildest expectations. They spend three minutes in the prologue focusing on Galadriel's paper ship, with Findrod talking about it I guess. My God, won't watch another second on Amazon's dime, but they fricked up the Prologue. It's all downhill from here.

Hobo Wizard and female Frodo is really boring.
What? I find both of them fascinating. I thought the long bit on the ship in Episode 1 was boring, with Galadriel taking forever to decide not to go to Valinor, but the rest has not been boring. Did you really find Khazad-dum boring?

This is already way better than those unfortunate movies.
bullshite. Unless they go into it after the Prologue, they left out the Kinslayings, which are pretty fricking important in this story.

No, they aren't. They are important to the story that Tolkien wrote.
They are not important to this TV series.

It is very much is to Elrond. There were multiple kinslayings, especially when (judging from the trailer) Galadriel has the fricking balls to tell Elrond he has not seen what she has seen.

I wanted a better prologue as well, but unfortunately they can't. Too much is in the silmarillion which they can't touch.
I actually like the black dwarf character a lot. Humorous and fits in. Arondir is stiff, sticks out too much. Hobbits are meh. I think numenor will be good.

Episode two was also pretty solid. I can see hardcore fans being upset.
So far the first two episodes beat out HotD for me

I mean, they somewhat showed the Oath of Feanor. I'm sorry, that's fricking pathetic. The Oath of Feanor they still talk about many thousands of years later, and it was quite the shite show. This is what the Oath of Feanor should look like:
It should have been epic as all frick, but it was really calm, never showed Feanor himself, and lasted for three seconds. I don't see how they could show the Two Trees and not do the Oath of Feanor justice.

This seems like reverse racism. We’re you not going to like him because he was black?

OML brings up such valid points and others just want to argue with him.

"Yeah, there's kind of a little oath where people raise their swords, but lets just gloss over that."
...Ummmmm, what?! That wasn't a little oath. That oath defined and destroyed anyone who made it during the First Age. They just gloss over it when that Oath is as important in the First Age as the forging of the One Ring was in the Second Age. You just don't gloss over it.

No, everyone was complaining about this casting. I was skeptical too, but I think she's great. It can be done, but you just gotta have the right people.

Why is it that The Silmarillion has never begun to approach the popularity of The Hobbit or of The Lord of the Rings?
It's because the First Age is depressing, that's why.
Amazon is not going to make money off Tolkien nerds. They need to have 20 million people watching this show. The story of the kinslayings is way too complicated and depressing to be a part of this TV show, in which elves must simply be regarded as "the good guys."

Ladies and gentlemen you just outed yourself. No matter what they do anything is possible as long as we can get 20 million people to watch it. frick whatever we have to do in between to get there. SMFH
They failed before they even started with that attitude.

Pretty decent so far. The acting is good, the sets are well done, and we got through all the character introductions. They better start pushing the plot forward in the next episode or it’ll get boring really fast.

But its the point of the Oath of Feanor. That Oath destroyed everyone who took it and brought them into hell. You just don't bring it up just casually. It was probably the consequential decision the elves ever made.

Could they show that if they didn’t have the right to the Silmarillion?
