If my card has purchase protection and PayPal has purchase protection, is it two layers of purchase protection, or does the PayPal purchase protection become exclusive because I didn't pay direct?

You technically have two layers or protection, but not in an all that great way.

Let's say you get scammed. You open a case with Paypal, but for some reason Paypal sides with the scammer. You open a case with your CC, they side with you. Paypal will get a charge back for that purchase, and then they will ban your account

Which would be fine, since in a case like that, I wouldn’t use them again anyway… ever.
