I was in the marines and we always called them "CH-46" or "CH-53"

I dont know where the "MH" comes from...

i think the MH was retired with the airforce and the CH stands for Combat Helicopter when referenced only in Marine/Naval use.

As a contractor, we did some maintenance training lessons for the two rotary-wing aircraft. The MH-53 was the Navy version, and the CH-53 was the Marine one.

The aircraft I saw at the Little River (Jacksonville, NC) Marine station were Ch-53s. The aircraft at Norfolk and in Ft. Walton (both being Naval bases) were MH-53s. There was also a cadre of MH-53s at the Navy base in Hawaii. I never saw either at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. Of course, the aircraft is used elsewhere.

I think that MH = Munitions Handler, and that CH = "Cargo Handler" (or possibly "Cargo Helicopter"). It's been about 5 years since I worked on that program. Since I don't use that info much, it gets farther and farther back into the long-term memory and gets harder to retrieve. Perhaps some of our soldiers/sailors who read TD familiar with the aircraft will read this and comment.

If this were a rabbit trail, we'd have a feast.

well i no the when we had the jets fly over earlier in the year they had to make some practice runs over the stadium so i was wondering if anyone and saw the fly over in the last couple of days??

if not someone on hear should be able to tell us for sure r not if they are gonna give us a fly over tomorrow before the game which would be freaking awesome to see them big arse choppers fly over us in the stadium

Getting on this board is like the scene in Fight Club when everywhere Ed Norton goes, somebody there is in a fight club. You rock, meauxjeaux2!

Been outside on campus all morning with no jets/helicopters. Don't really think that the helicopters really need to do a practice run before hand to find landmarks??

Hey Meauxjeaux,

If you're out there, why don't you go ask a pilot/crew member what they're doing? Seems like an easy way to find out if they're flying over or not.

Timing for Helos is much much easier than fighters. So practice runs are not as crucial. Considering they can just hover and hang out till go time. I will say though I saw an AWACS land there the other day, so they could be out on some type of training mission.
