That's what I'm thinking. Tennessee gave a higher NIL offer. Why wouldn't lsu want a top 200 guy, especially at cb?

Maybe there are higher people on LSU’s db board that we are saving NIL funds for.
Matthew’s is fast as hell and has great size but his film leaves a lot to be desired. He’s a project with a lot of upside. Maybe he wanted to go to a place where he could get on the field right away instead of having to develop for 2-3 years.
Toviano, rodgers, and Thomas are all guys you who are going to get PT right away. Maybe Matthew’s ends up being better than all 3 but that’s not the reality at the present moment.

Totally agree about his game film. I’m not one to crap on a player’s abilities just because they don’t chose LSU. I hated losing Ausberry this year and think he will play in the NFL. KylinJackson looks like a guy that covers a huge amount of field, has great instincts, and hits/tackles the way a great safety does. Could be wrong, but I didn’t see Matthews as a big get.

I understand leaving the state. But I don’t understand leaving the state for Tennessee, unless it’s simply for more money.

He’s a very good student so if he picked Stanford, Notre Dame, Michigan (a finalist), or even USC, I can understand for sure.

Alabama has the Saban mystique so I understand why some guys leave for Bama. I realize this doesn’t apply to Matthews but more generally.

But when a guy with a legit LSU offer picks Tennessee or Auburn (like the older Ausbery), it’s a complete head scratcher.
