not sure how long the wait would be but it might be best to wait for some Dolby Vision projectors to hit the scene in large numbers.

That would be nice but it doesn't look likely any time soon. Even the 5 figure high end laser models from JVC & Sony aren't there yet.

A "true" 4K projector starts at $5-6K, everything under that is a simulated 4K using pixel shifting. That can give a very good result though. The LG HU810PW is pretty well reviewed and probably hard to beat in its price range. The HDR handling isn't going to be like what you'd get on a good OLED or LCD TV but you have to go into a much higher price range for that.
