Turnips or radishes - SWLA food plot question

I searched and couldn't pin point what I was looking for. The guy at Nichols told me that they plant turnips each year and they grow well and the deer love them. He also said it seems like the pigs don't root as much in the plots.
Does anyone have any experience planting either around the southwest LA or south la area? Any luck?
I am planning to mix the seed with some plotspike forage feast.

After it gets cold. Not sure it would get cold enough in swla.

Im in south ms. Been doing the same every yr with excellent results. Buy separate, and mix
Forage oats
Wheat
Winter peas
Purple top turnips
Sometimes toss n clover
Early on i watch the deer tear up peas and oats and wheat. By the end of dec and jan, i watched on many occasions the deer picking the turnips. Never saw them mess with roots, but was destroying leaves. So funny standing there with those huge leaves in their mouth.

The deer by my place (south Ms) won’t touch a purple top turnip or the leaf. I planted them probably 8 years in a row because they are so easy to grow. The deer eat rape and clover the best.

We can't plant turnips, pigs root them up first chance they get.
