We have a 3 foot strip of what is now mud between our side walk and the street running down the side of our new house.

Previous owner had planted some 5 foot tall evergreens; almost Christmas tree looking. We cut them down because they were sure to scratch the cars parking there.

My wife suggested monkey grass. Just looking for some ground cover.

Decent amount of sunlight.

TIA

Grass, nandina, boxwood all come to mind.

An attractive temporary fix is to seed with crimson clover. That will give you a nice green fall followed by a dense flower cover in the spring. Till the clover into the ground when it fades in the hot summer. Then lay sod.

A warning on nandina, it can be a very aggressive spreader and very hard to remove. I had a 10' diameter patch removed , and the landscaper resorted to using a stump grinder. Five years later I still poison a few sprigs every year.

Thanks guys.

Not going with grass because of potential mud issues.

Something dog piss won't kill, especially next to the mailbox.

That's one of the worst things about my neighborhood
