I think its going to depend on if you are hunting wild birds or not. I am guessing if you are on a combo pheasant and chuckar hunt, everything will be cage raised. If that is the case, small pellet sizes are no problem for those birds. Wild pheasants are usually a little tougher/stronger and will need a little more knock down power so I can certainly understand a larger pellet for those.
