She crashed into the house going an estimated 90 mph. At that speed, in a Cooper Mini it is not hard to see how she could have sustained severe head trauma-----airbag or not.

The brain damage is from a total lack of oxygen. Anoxic brain injury is what she has. Per the internet, brain cells start to die after four minutes with no oxygen. And she was in that burning car for an hour.
