He was the ultimate professional as well. The story of the 1989 Dodgers/ Astros game is legend. He was not supposed to call that game that night. He flew into Houston that night and the game was still going on, so he headed to the Astrodome and gave the crew calling the game for the Dodgers ( and I think the Astros as well) a break because they had gone 13 innings already. The game went 22 innings and Vin called the remaining 9 solo.
The next day he got up and called a Sunday afternoon game between the Astros and Dodgers.....never missed a beat.
He also was almost the # 1 football team with Madden. They paired him with Madden for some games and then Sumrall. As a consolation he and Stram called the NFC Championship game and called Dwight Clark's catch.
