I have two cats. One of them is in my lap every single night, without invitation. Cats are affectionate, and it has nothing to do with food.
Dogs and cats have been domesticated for thousands of years. Most dogs are not equipped to survive in the wild. Most will work for their keep. Mine works security, and also helps me get exercise.
