“The popularity of the ‘chemical imbalance’ theory of depression has coincided with a huge increase in the use of antidepressants. Prescriptions for antidepressants have risen dramatically since the 1990s, with one in six adults in England and 2% of teenagers now being prescribed an antidepressant in a given year.
So when I started anti-depressants they legit did nothing good for me, the side effects were so bad I got suicidal by just quitting the meds. No one told me that could be a side effect and I ended up being hospitalized. Because why wouldn't anti-depressants cause people to be suicidal.
BUT I never took them because there was a rise in popularity of having a "chemical imbalance" Something was off in my body and it needed to be fixed. Unfortunately, I just had a crap doctor that was like well its a grab bag of drugs so lets see if this works.
I still have crazy anxiety, but have found other ways to help that.
I am still a believer in a chemical imbalance being in place.
Yes, I could work out more or eat better before all the haters come in saying that is all you have to do to make things better.

That’s a lie that they tell themselves as confirmation of what they’re doing. Does it help? I’m sure to some degree, but it’s far from a “cure” for depression.

I found it was more that cured my anxiety/depression.

Eating better

Most importantly: Stop lying to myself and others. Stop committing/agreeing to do things I couldn't do (Just say No to people). Take responsibility for my actions.
That last part literally changed my life. When I talk to so many others that are going through depression and anxiety that last part is the primary thing for them too.
