Ive had to fly southwest the last couple times since American decided to just cancel flights. I hate their boarding with a passion.

1- It creates a clusterfrick around the boarding area. “what number are you? Is this “B” group? Most airlines are crowded at boarding but southwest is particularly awful due to boarding process brought on by their seat policy.

2- you are a slave to your phone until you check in. You better be pounding that check in button the second it is 24 hours from your departure. Not at your phone at that time? Have fun in “C” group. But you can pay extra to check in early and avoid! That is terrible to make me spend more money just so I can board earlier. I’ll gladly pay extra for an assigned seat of my choosing, but not to board earlier.
3- Even with auto check in, if you don’t check in when you’re supposed to it will check you into a later group. I paid extra for the auto check in one time. Wasn’t by my phone, got a message 3 hours laters saying my auto check in was complete and my position was B43. I’m sorry but auto check in should grant you an “A” boarding position.

SW definitely rewards loyalty. Everything you described in your post is eliminated once you get status. I can respect that.
