Paxlovid can greatly increase the level of Eliquis in the body ( LINK). That makes the risk of bleeding > than the risk of clots especially since there is no way to reverse the anticoagulation effects of Eliquis. Given that POTUS has his own personal medical team on call at all times and is closely managed it is entirely appropriate for POTUS to be taken off Eliquis and placed on an anticoagulant what is more easily reversed such as heparin which even though it requires 2-3 subcutaneous injections per day has 0 major drug-drug interactions with Paxlovid and can be used to for VTE PPX in Afib.
