I'm contemplating a short mid week trip to the beach next week (wed-sat). Looking for public beach without all the people. Trying to find a place that is unspoiled/laid back kinda off the beaten path. We typically do the gulf front (orange beach or destin) gig but i'm looking to get away from people...also don't mind a short drive to the beach each day....wondering if these types of unspoiled places still exist.

TIA

It's farther east, but we went to Alligator Point two spring breaks ago and there was no one there. We also rented a huge, pretty nice place for cheap.

Not sure what it's like in the summer, but we loved it. The water isn't that blue/green you get on lots of other beaches along the gulf, but it's not bad. It's a brown tint due to the tannins that come from the pine needles that run off in the bay behind it - basically the farthest east part of Apalachicola. I guess it's technically the St George Sound, but either way, it's a pretty secluded area that I think will more than likely be crowd free.

It is pretty far from grocery stores, etc. It's roughly 45 minutes to the closest legitimate large grocery. Some pretty good spots to eat and lots of oysters down there - Pelican Oyster company is based out of Panacea, not too far north.

The whole area is like that OP. The entire St Joe Peninsula would fit your bill, Indian Pass would be great, and you will probably really like St George Island also.

There's plenty of public accesses, so it would all really depend on where you want to stay?

Since its your first time, you may consider staying somewhere and going to all of the above. They are pretty similar all in all. The water is usually better (clearer) the further west you are especially on the Cape and then less clear toward St George with the Apalachicola River.

Lot of shells down there also, and Apalachicola is worth walking around and having dinner. The shops have limited hours so I always recommend going during the week before dinner.

Cape San Blas will have much clearer water than Mexico Beach which is known to some as muddy beach. Either of those places will help you avoid people though and are great places to visit.
