Will my insurance company chase down a worthless POS that was driving around without insurance or will this be left up to me? Also, I have heard that when using uninsured motorist, this will affect my rates, is that a true statement?

Many do, but only after they pay on one of your coverages.

Edit...I wasn't paying attention and am 1 cup short on coffee. You're in Alabama? Forget what I said about rates.

This is called "Subrogation"

your rates cannot be raised for a non-fault accident.

Yeah, because insurance companies can't ever figure out a way to pack it on as another "miscellaneous" charge

The fact of the matter is, rates are so high in Louisiana precisely because we have so many uninsured or under insured drivers drivers. The price will be passed on to you, directly or indirectly

You keep saying this, but it's Louisiana law. I edited the first response for Alabama.

No shite. I did it for over a decade.

Meh, it's more likely a combination of lawyer advertising, doctors who will treat an unlimited # of months, and Judges who do not hold plaintiffs to their burden of proof.

Did the insurance company pay you anything for uninsured coverage? If so they may try, but will likely be unsuccessful.

While it won't be used against you as an at fault accident, it's never a good thing for your rates if an insurance company has to pay you.

No need to take personal offense, I replied to you, but My response was intended for everyone on the thread.

The factors you pointed out do make a difference, The number of UM drivers has a significant impact on rates

They can't legally surcharge you for a not-at-fault accident. But they can take away a "claim free discount". Its a loophole that I know of at least one LA auto insurer who does this.

So far, only for rental coverage. I assume this will also cover damage to my truck and property damage. I tore the shite out of some folks yard.

Depends on how much money they’re on the hook for and how much they think it will cost them to do so.

Depends on your company but usually not. If you’re just repairing your vehicle you’ll use your collision coverage though.
