Shaft is important but a wedge fitting is useless if you're not being fit on real turf. Getting a wedge fitting inside off of a mat is pointless.

I understand your reasoning, but I think that is a very broad statement. Key data can be collected to determine a probable outcome. Launch angles, loft, lie, angle at impact, etc., would help give pretty accurate readings. I've done both.
