My 22 yr old is heading there for an extended stay. He’s currently a manager at a local bakery and wanted to take some food related excursions or tours in Madrid. Anyone have any recommendations?

Just got back from Madrid.

He should check out Chocolat - simply fantastic churros and porras. If he can figure out how they make them and open a stand wherever he lives he will be a hero.

Madrid has some really great restaurants but not sure if it really has a foodie destination. It’s like the DC of Spain.

StreetXO is one of the best meals I’ve had.

Rick Steves has some tapas crawls that are inexpensive.

It DEFINITELY is. It just doesn’t cater to tourists.

A lot of the best restaurants in Spain are there now.

Sala de Despiece and StreetXO are both amazing.

I meant more from an on hands cooking experience type thing. Agree some of Spain’s best restaurants are in Madrid, but it’s also a lot of influences and cuisines from around Spain which came to the capital.

Yeah, I got you. The OP went over my head a bit.

Keep in mind that train travel in Spain is cheap as long as you go coach class on the less-than-premier trains. Tell the kid to travel a bit and eat his way across Spain.

I don't konw the Madrid food scene well.

But I love Restaurante Piripi in Alicante, and the Barcelona metro area has some great choices. Bar del Pla and Barra Alta are my two favorites in BCN. There are more fancy places but those two fit my travels well.
