If he were to run in 2024 and lose a lot of mystique he currently has it's going to make it harder to win in a crowded GOP field in 2028. He's a young guy. Still in his early 40s. He's more valuable being left on the sidelines than tossing his hat in the ring in 2024 with a slimmer chance.
And something could happen between now and 2028 that could cause him to lose his "mystique". I don't blame him for running if he chooses. 4 years is an eternity in politics.

There are already several other people going to run in 2024 that will siphon off the "anti-Trump" vote.
The fact that you think support for Desantis is "anti-Trump" is pretty telling. I'll repeat what I said earlier.....Desantis is basically Latin Trump.
If Desantis were to win the nomination, his turnout would be just as good as Trumps. Unless the cultist-faction of Trumps base decides proving a point is more important than the country.

He'll continue having a large platform as the Governor in the most popular state in the country. He'll also earn a much valued Trump endorsement by sitting out in 2024. Look, the guy is in his early 40's. He's still very early in his political career.
