NIL + transfer portal was always gonna benefit LSU significantly more than anybody else in baseball as long as we had a coach with a pulse, basically. I don’t “know,” I just had Hunt on in the background and heard him say “pars defect injury.” I perked up because I recognized the term. There’s all kinds of severities and progressions of it, though. Mine devolved into a full stress fracture which can take a brace and 6-9 months of solid rest to heal. If he’s throwing already, they caught his before mine. Likely way before. But I’ve heard nothing about surgery and Hunt today is literally the only time I’ve heard the injury named, so I definitely wouldn’t take it as gospel.

Nowadays, you don’t need to brace that long. He’ll still have to very much take his time with progressing his throwing intensity, but if they’re careful with him, he absolutely should be back by spring.

Thank goodness for him. My “brace” was basically a girdle with maleable metal braces inside that wrapped around my torso and had to be tied in the front. I would have fit right in with the women in Tombstone. The high school girls loved it.

Did you really think we didn’t know that he was injured last year? He’s probably the top young pitcher in college baseball. He’s been said to be the #1 prospect in the 2024 draft.
He will be ready for next season. It’s a 6 month injury or at absolute worst a one year injury. If his is the worst version then he’s still back for sec play but I’m expecting him to be our opening day starter. Especially if the creighton kid that transferred is drafted and never makes it here which is looking very possible

SI.com reported on April 8, 2022 that he suffered a “pars defect” injury. By definition, a pars defect is not an injury. Pars defects are either congenital, stress fracture or traumatic. Many believe they’re actually congenital. What likely happened was a sudden subluxation causing a spondylolisthesis. This would have created the sudden back pain. The only “cure” is fusion. If he keeps his core strength strong he could get by. Only time will tell.
