and pushups are a great overall predictor of health but pullups/chinsups are an even better indicator as are ring pushups.

other good ones are reverse lunges(stability), reverse bear crawls(again stability and mobility) and deadlift(overall force production)

all the animal crawls are amazing indicators really.

I wish they had an adult version of what we used to do in Middle School. President's Award, or something, it was called.

At my daughters school they make the kids now do “sit ups” with nobody holding their feet and hands extended by their sides. WTF is up with that? My daughter crushed the mile, flexibility, pull-ups, push-ups, and literally everything else but failed this step because her feet came fr the ground doing the crunches before she completed 12.

it was the presidential physical fitness test and 95% of the OT couldnt even get the health award

you essentially had 3 levels

best- presidetial(85th percentile)
good- national(50th percentile)
ok- health/partcipant- (25th percentile)

situps-30
v-sit reach- 1(reach 1" past toes)
1 mile run-7:30
pullups- 6 dead hang
pushups- 18

presidential:

national:

i can honestly say i would not be able to do the 1 mile run in 7:30 just on the health/participants level.
