Never been to south east Asia before. Heard the temps are like Louisiana in summer and just as humid. What’s some things I should be looking to do?

have a friend that is a former Green Beret, Vietnam vet, that went to Malaysian jungle school there, he just said he wouldn't recommend that if you're going there for vacation

in all seriousness.

yeah, it's super warm and humid there. think August in South Louisiana. swamp arse 24/7.

they love malls there. in the major cities there will be a Mall of Louisiana size mall every 3-4 blocks. wouldn't waste a lot of time in them. it's the same thing in every mall on almost every floor. unless you're into people watching.

Food is cheap, you'll get a full meal for $4-5 bucks. It's a great accumulation of pretty much every single cuisine from Asia. The restaurants are great, but street markets are great as well.

Beer mehh, no micro-breweries. just national brands that are average at best compared to what we have here. liquor also isn't cheap.

the parks are beautiful, clean, and safe.

i would say as long as you don't sit in your hotel room, you'll have a great experience.

Went to Tioman island about 20 years ago. Loved it, very primitive but gorgeous. The the small ferry that we took out there had a heavily armed deckhand apparently due to pirates. Gorgeous place though.

My FIL family is from Melaka, but now lives in the Taman Desa neighborhood of Kuala Lumpur. I've only been to KL. Not sure what you're looking to do, but I'm not so much of a sightseer. However, I did check out the Petronas Towers. They are impressive and worth the go. I prefer to try different foods, cocktail bars, etc. Jalan Alor is probably the most-popular stretch for food + it's close to a district of western bars, so I'm not sure if that's what you're going for. Wasn't totally for me, so I preferred Petaling. Very crowded, but I enjoyed myself. For cocktail bars, check out Coley and THREE X CO.

Had a college roommate from Singapore once. He loved karaoke but was poor singer.
