YNAB question...overspending for large purchases

Let's say I allocate $400/mo to discretionary/fun spending and I want to buy something that costs $600. How do I automatically take away $200 for next month?

You don’t take away from next month, it comes from your available cash. You’d have to lower a current allocation to cover the extra $200

So there's no way to make a large purchase using multiple months? I try not to dip into other spending categories

Your money goes to the allocation. You spend only what is in the allocation. If you don’t have enough, you are not able to do it.
If you are spending every penny every month then you are at a disadvantage because you won’t build up greater amounts.
IE, $400 a month but only spend 2-300. You can afford bigger purchases every so often.

You could wait till next month then make the big purchase.. or if you know the big purchase is coming save for it in the previous months.
It defeats the purpose of the budget if you are spending next months money before you have it. Or going into debt; when you should have an emergency fund.

So if I only use $100 of $200 during the month...the excess with auto carry over to the next month?

The world is going to shite, spend it now, have a little fun. Screw the budget.

Don’t you have any self control/discipline?
I had to goggle what YNAB was.
Jesus frick! You need to pay for a service to make you stick to a budget and reign in your spending habits? And then you want to manipulate the budget parameters you paid to create?

No. The whole point of YNAB is not spending money you don't have yet.

What do you use to budget or otherwise keep track of your day to day finances?

Well, I'm already a multi millionaire in my early 30s. I think I have some self control. Thanks for your concern though

If you have the money to spend now, budget $600 this month and only $200 next month.

I don’t need a budget because I have self control to not put me in a jam. I don’t need to micromanage my day to day spending because I sacrificed when I was younger for a better tomorrow.
I set myself up to not have to worry about gas rising 10 fricking cents like so many losers on this board bitch about. People sacrifice their future to have it today. The future has come and it ain’t bright for the vast majority and now they want to cry. Well, that was their choice. I have zero sympathy.
More people, and especially children, need to read The Ant and the Grasshopper by Aesop. I remember reading it as a young child.

Somehow I just knew that your response was going to be that you happened to be a young multi millionaire! All accomplished through your own hard work and sacrifice. My argument falls apart. Touché sir.
