Politicians know the memory of the voter regarding the acts of the politician is about 120 days long. Hence, the politician behaves anyway he/she/it/them/they/x/y/etc.. wants until about 120 days before the election.
Then they become exactly what they told their voters they would be. Wash, rinse, repeat...

I don't think that's the case at all. His voters know exactly what kind of swamp creature he is, but he has the backing of the GOP and all the big money. Nobody wanted to run against him, or at least didn't get the backing of Trump and the Super PACs to try and compete. If you're a republican, you had to vote this POS and not the Dem. It was a shitty choice to make. Graham only won due to lack of options.
