While at times it looked disorganized as the play was being relayed onto the field, the defense looked even more out of their comfort zone. I think the appearance of chaos was more about the players talking to each other.

Have you seen the spread run by at least a dozen top teams? This is how it works. You line up, preferably without a huddle. The offensive coach sees the defense and personnel in at the time, and the players look over, because of crowd noise. The play stays the same or it is changed. Watch other teams playing the spread, and you will see the exact same thing. Auburn did it nearly every play of their game.

I've noticed the confusion your referring to as well, but it usually occurs when Lee is at the helm. It appears as though he doesn't know the offense as well as Hatch. Lee is the better talent. I just hope that he gets more comfortable as the season progresses. It's to be expected with Freshmen QBs.

i think Crowton has already proven himself
the only 2 delay of game penalties were done on purpose, 1 to give our punter more room and the other to run out the clock at the end of the game

They mentioned this before the game about how Lee was having trouble making changes at the line of scrimmage and was relying on the OL's for assistance. LSU and Miles told Lee that he must take it upon himself to make these calls and reads and the OL needs to not assist him........
It looks uglier on the road because of the noise but is necessary w/ a new and young QB....
As for penalties........SC only got flagged THREE times and there were numerous holds not called on there OL. I don't know how teams continue to get away w/ it. Barksdale needs to straighten up his motions as well.

and your qualifications for these football comments are???

I have a feeling that some of this apparent "confusion" is a ploy to throw the opposing defense off-balance. It makes them anxious. They get in their stance ready to go, then there is our "confusion" and they come off their stance only to have to reset again. I believe this breaks up their momentum somewhat and increases their chances of jumping offisdes. Florida did the same thing to us last week. It is maddening to watch as a spectator, but I think it is effective on the field.

You are way deluded, bro.
Even the chick commentator mentioned how smoothly LSU ran two quarterbacks last night.
One man's "confusion" is another mans "system of checks and reads designed to fool the opponent".

And while I'm at it, when you, 500 feet up in the stands, see two receivers talking to each other, pointing at things and bobbing their heads, how can YOU, MR CLASSICAL RANTARD, tell me if they are:
a) Saying "you see that coverage; yeah I see it; you got that guy; yeah I got him, you run break the route short"
or
b) Saying "what the frick we doing?; I don't know, who's getting that guy over there, you?; shite, bro I got no clue.."

Columbia is a great city...Keep in mind that it is an OLD city.
Also, the dumpy part may have been the area between downtown and 5 pts. ther is a small piece that is bad.
But the city is very nice and clean.
I lived there for a while.
It would be like going downtown BR and saying that that's what the city is like....
a lot of nice areas in Columbia

a few comments from Columbia
here are some observations from a lifetime (hardcore) Tiger fan (BR native) living in Charlotte for the past 10 years.
1) the music blaring over the loudspeakers at Williams Brice is about the coolest thing i have heard in a football stadium. the place was rockin' for no other reason. not particularly "Loud", just SUPER high-energy. Tiger Stadium could use some of that. From what i gathered, it's about the only thing they've got there that we might want.
2) Columbia is pretty much a dump. Makes the drive from Port Allen to Tiger Stadium via River Road look like the Champs E'lysee.
3) If there is ONE thing possibly evident from the stands that may have been less so on Television, it is the extreme level of general confusion and disorganization on the field shown by LSU. I understand there will be check-offs. I understand the guys need to make adjustments. I understand that football is a complex game. What i don't understand is an offensive coaching staff making things SO incredibly complex for such a young group of guys that half the time they DO NOT KNOW where to line up, who to block or which route to run.
Yes this is 2008. Yes, Gary Crowton is an X and O genius (i think), but i gotta say...our offense sure looked gimmicky at times. Something is wrong when you have to run a triple misdirection double fake statue of liberty BS to produce a 3 yard off-tackle gain. It simply introduces too much opportunity for error.
I don't know if you guys could see it on the Television, all 4 receivers looking at each other, the coach, back to each other, the quarterback, pointing, shifting, changing sides of the field....before almost EVERY PLAY. it was insane. KISS!
Dude you are dead on correct 100%. They look lost at times and instead of simplifying the offense it looks too hard for them.

the music in Columbia was not the typical bullcrap whoop whoop trash they play at the friggin NBA games
I heard them pumping in techno that was "popular" about 7-8 years ago, it doesn't get that much worse IMO.

Gimmicky or not, LSU, under Gary Crowton, has never scored less than 21 points a game.
But based on your comments, I can only assume that you'd rather have Jimbo Fisher back as the OC.......

I liked the 2001: Odyssey opening (minus the stupid mascot unveiling). Thought it was pretty pump up. It was then punctuated with the Gamecock fight song performed by the school band. Don't see why you couldn't have both.

I dont care what people say on here, but that looked and sounded like a blast.. It was a actually a bit intimidating (as intimidating as USC can get) at the beginning of the game.

I totally agree but do we cater to the alumni or the current students? IMO Tiger Stadium has gotten pretty soft w/in the few years, and our "no standing" rule pussified it even more..
