He was in college 5 years before. He was still an Am for the 2012 US Open
That’s the point, Rory was a shite ton better than brooks at that time, which is why he had a better career

quote:The point was that 2015 wasn't arbitrary. It was when Brooks started on tour and he's arguably been better than Rory since his arrival which is a fairer comparison. Comparing careers when Rory has a 6-year head start isn't exactly going to be unbiased when those first 6 years were his best and he's underachieved since then.

It’s this simple
Rory, born 1989
4 majors
21 pga tour wins
14 euro wins
3 x pga tour player of the year
106 weeks at #1 in world
Koepka, born 1990
4 majors
8 pga tour wins
6 euro wins
1 x pga tour player of the year
47 weeks at #1 in world
There you go, two guys right at the same age, and that’s their respective careers

Rory has had a much career than Bruce.
Posted on 6/14/22 at 10:55 am to TDTOM
Yeh but for 6 years brooks wasn’t good enough to be on tour so that makes his career better
Posted on 6/14/22 at 10:56 am to lsupride87
It seems like your only argument to why Rory has had a better career than Brooks is because he's been playing in the PGA longer than him.
Take away the brainwashed "PGA victories" measurement of success and since 2014..
Brooks earnings are 37M & 4 Majors
Rory's earnings are 40M & 0 Majors
Rory's career earnings (since 2009) are 64M. What if LIV was around when Brooks turned pro in 2012 & before he joined PGA in 2014?

No one is going to argue that Rory started out great as a kid. His majors and him being on top of golf happened before he was 25. Since he made it on tour though, Brooks has been arguably better. That's the point. Rory has a better career, no doubt. That wasn't the argument.

I guess Scottie Scheffler has had a better career than Rory too
I mean, since joining the tour he has been better than Rory

If you need to keep creating strawmans to win arguments with yourself, that's fine. I was only here to tell you that 2015 wasn't arbitrary and that since Brooks has been on tour, he's done better than Rory as Rory has significantly underachieved since his first 6 years. If you disagree with that, disagree with it. Don't make up me saying one career is better than the other when I never did.

You jumped into an argument where a poster was saying brooks career has been better than Rory. That is the conversation you entered into. That isn’t me creating a strawman
Hell, since on tour, brooks has been better than tiger too. But what’s the point of that conversation when we are talking about CAREERS.
The strawman in the conversation was bringing up “since on tour”, since the entire conversation wa s about careers. If Brooke was 6 years younger than Rory it would be worth mentioning, but he isn’t
I have no bone to pick with you because our actual discussions on golf have been good, but you entered this chat about the careers of two golfers.

wrong. That's the argument you started. You said "Rory's career has been farrrrr better than Koepka". I asked "who's been better since 2015?".
point of this whole thread was about his "21 victories" comment & personally I think the days of that being a milestone are over. Measurement of success should simply be major wins (against the best competition).
Posted on 6/14/22 at 11:13 am to lsupride87
To be fair, he predicated it on 2015. And to be fair, you thought that was arbitrary when it wasn't. He didn't bring up entire careers until I was already posting. He's sort of avoided it by continuing to bring up 2014/2015. Rory was on fire from 2010 to 2014. 10 PGA tour wins and 4 majors... very comparable to Brooks 2017-2021 honestly. Being close to the same age is certainly a knock on Brooks. But he's had almost a decade on tour where he's been better than Rory nearly every year. The career argument isn't over when they both have another 7-10 years playing. But up till now, it's no doubt Rory because of how well he played as a kid.

You started it by saying this
quote:So I simply let you know that yes, Rory is that much better from how his career is viewed standpoint
but he only has 8 PGA Tour wins, so apparently Rory is much better

did you really just hit me with a "you started it". Are we 12?
I tried to get the conversation back on topic, but you seem to enjoy making these threads go for multiple pages.

Since the magical 2015, Rory has had better years in
2015
2016
2020
2021
Brooks better in
2017
2018
2019

Arguably .. True. Brooks had a hell of a good 2017-2019. It was Tiger like... Line he was going to win every time he teed it up. Also the time frame that Rory got married ( this seems to affect golfers ... especially ones that have won and are established.. no data just my perception...like Rickie now) but the claim for Brooks can be pinned on 23 months from Jun17 to May19 ( which can't be discounted but for context)
In same time frame as Brooks, Justin Thomas has two majors, a players and a total of 15 wins

Rory has had better years
based on what metric? The "brainwashed" number of PGA Tour wins? Brooks has been on record saying he doesn't care about those tournaments outside of majors.
Brooks has earned more $ than Rory in every season except the current season, but there is still a lot of $ on the table.
Hell you could argue that Charl Schwartzel is having a "better" year this year than he did in 2011 when he won The Masters and he's only finished in the top 25 of 2 PGA Tournaments this year. Depends on what metric you use to determine the "better" year.
