Also not mentioned is depending on how the verbiage in the contract is set-up; there is a possibility that if he's suspended a full year, or finds his way on the Commissioner's exemption list, that the year won't count and the contract could essentially shift a year. Not sure how that affects signing bonus money as that would have already been paid

He would get his fully salary on the exempt list and his contract would toll towards the next season.

If he got suspended his contract would toll and he would lose out on the base salary for each game he was suspended for. Browns, in order to save space and to entice Watson to choose them, decided to lower his base salary to less than 2 mil this season, that way if he is suspended he doesn’t lose that much money and they have some leverage of financial freedom to make the numbers work to add on his deal.
