In college I worked at a public golf course. Every Tuesday or Wednesday the "Men's Club" would play. Now, the minimum age to be in the club was around 65. The average age was probably close to 70. Many of these guys could barley walk. Damn near all of them walked with some degree of a limp.

They would pick teams and gamble on each hole. "Gamble" in the sense the bet on each hole was about 50 cents. The winning team would usually take home a pot of about $30.00, total, to be split 3 or 4 ways. However, you would have thought they were betting $50,000 a hole with the amount of bickering, bitching, and fighting they did amongst themselves. Every round ended with some type of argument and accusations of cheating. EVERY.SINGLE.ROUND. About every 3-4 weeks I'd get called out on the course to break up a potential fight. Mostly just pushing and shoving. One old man who could barley walk pushed another old man with a steel rod in his leg on an elevated green, which caused him to fall and literally roll down the green before coming to rest 15 yards away. There were always threats of "I'm going to wrap this club around your head" or "I'm about to stick this putter up your arse!" ALWAYS.

Ultimately, after arguing in the locker-room post round for 30 minutes, they would revert back to talking about who among them had the biggest/littlest dick, and which of them was now banging some 68 year old widow. On the one hand it was pathetic to watch these old men get so damn angry over $1.50. On the other hand, I kind of envied them. They had lived good lives to the point were their biggest worry of the day was arguing to the point of great bodily injury over literal pocket change before eventually laughing about someone little dick.

It was during that time I learned our life span is an arch. We peak in our maturity around 45 or so before gradually regressing back to child-like behavior.
