Thanks. I’ve been out of the game for too long apparently. What you described is the impression I’m getting. Have an 8-year old that’s ready for some catching and mama needs filets!

Is there a better location for trout this time of year? Seems like lodging is an issue in GI.

I do exactly this with my kids (they're teenagers now) and fish for redfish/drum/sheepshead. If I am feeling saucy we may go try to target trout. But the redfish is old school cork fishing. And it is almost guaranteed to be successful. You will end up with a beautiful box of fish and some tasty fillets. And the kid will stay busy all morning.

I actually enjoy the redfish fishing almost as much as the trout. Nothing beats a great trout bite. But it's a gut punch to run 100 miles round trip and end up with three fish.

Absolutely. You can try Dularge at the Reel Inn Lodge, Hopedale/Shell Beach, Delacroix, or even head west and fish with one of the 300 guides at Calcasieu Lake.
