I faced this same situation in the 2019. I had taken care of my Dad for years but his health got to the point that I couldn't give him the care he needed. This was my biggest fear and it happened. You are doing a wise thing by getting a jump on this. Take the time and tour many facilities ask a ton of questions. Find the facebook site for the different facilities. Ask questions of the residents families. Be prepared to hear everything good and bad you will hear both. Take both with a grain of salt. Ask your parents doctor what facility they recommend or which ones to avoid. Most of these facilities will encourage you to switch your parents primary care over to the doctor or doctors that regularly visit their facility. This is a personal choice. There is no right or wrong answer to this but it does make a bit easier with a parent who has many issues to have a doctor that is in and out of that particular facility regularly. The thing with these places is they are no better than the staff and all of these places are having serious staffing issues. My dad passed back in feb. overall I was happy with the care he got in there but their will be things you don't like. Also be prepared for so bad days once your parent enters the home. My Dad went through a bad period for about the first 2 months or so. But once he got adjusted he was doing better than he did for several years before he went in there.
