I understand that it is frustrating if you have to pick up their slack. BUT have they ever had to pick up your slack while you were on vacation or out sick? I'm guessing yes.
If my son has a soccer game at 6 pm two nights per week, and you call me to get work done (because I technically work until 7 pm my time). It isn't getting done. I will do it when I get home or tomorrow. I'm not missing that game.
If I get a call from daycare that he is sick and needs to come home, you better believe I'll miss a little work to take him to the doctor. I will work that day, but be a little slower. What do you want me to do? Just say sorry to my 4 year old and send him to take care of himself of the day?
Everything always gets done, just not immediately.
ETA: If this is a chronic issue with one specific coworker, all the time, that is a little different.
