he went in with 5 other guys for a nice cabin cruiser none could afford individually.

How does this work? Like joint custody? Is there a calendar where they can reserve certain dates.

If that works for them, have at it. I just feel like I'd rather own something outright or just rent something myself. If I wanted to take the boat out on a spur of the moment trip, I'd hate to have to refer to a calendar to see if it's available.

You use a web based calendar, the weeks of the year are dividend equally among partners rotating through each partner. After that if a partner wants a particular week that belongs to another partner they can trade or work it out however they want, and just update the calendar. Weeks with holiday s are rotated among partners. If you have the week of the 4th of July this year you don’t get it the next year, but like other weeks individual partners can trade.

A friend's dad did that with a jet to own 1/3 and their cousins each own a 1/3. They schedule for the year then prorate per day what hasn't been scheduled and used.

They use is to go to the "ranch" south of Uvalde to quail hunt for a day, or deer hunt. Mom will take her friends to play golf somewhere for a day. In summer they take it to their house in Colorado. Cousins use it for business trips, and Longhorns games. Just maybe to go whoring in Costa Rica as well.
