In a thread I hijacked or started I asked about tube amps. FretShack checked in with the Peavey Classics which I hunting actively. While I am hunting these Delta Blues amps keep popping up.

They hover around the same wattage and price point. They pop up all over when looking for Classics. Just wondered if they should be on my radar or if they have problems. It appears to be a tube amp like the Classics. I think they max out in a 30 watt version.

Not much difference. I can't recall if they have vibrato channels. Otherwise, the 1x15 is basically a working man's Vibroverb with an added OD channel. The 2x10 is a working man's Vibrolux Reverb with an added OD channel.

I had the former. It suffered from tube rattle, a problem so common that someone I recall actually designed an aftermarket cage to secure the EL84s in the chassis. After I fixed the rattle, no issues.

I regretfully sold mine. I'd probably scope out the 2x10 if I had to replace it, I love 10s in a combo guitar amp. Exhibit A:

I've always liked peavey.

I started out on a Peavey Bandit 65, I got a lot out of that little amp.

May get another one someday

The Super Reverb is the greatest amp of all time. I love 4x10 amps.

The super reverb sounds like a Fender. And sounds like it would be WAY out of my price point. I am willing to be wrong. I welcome it sometimes.

The sweetness of 10s in a Fender-style combo and what I anticipate is your price point is exactly why I gave a thumbs up to the 2x10 format Delta Blues.

Most of the clean used 2x10 DBs on Reverb right now are less than 1/5th the street cost of the cheapest price you will pay for an amp like the one pictured above. And that's before you play for the servicing a new-to-you 50-plus year old amp may need. Like a classic car, a vintage amp can be a money pit to get up and running.

The Peavey brings a lot to the table the Super doesn't . The DB more versatile thanks to two very different channels, a helluva lot easier to move around a house or practice room, to haul in a car or up stairs, to retube affordably. And DBs are newer meaning less likely to need servicing, a filter cap job, dry-rotted or played-out speaker replacement, etc.

I have absolutely zero need for another Delta Blues but I will buy the next clean 2x10 that shows up close to me, just to have it.

Sounds perfect then. Three on my list.

1. Peavey Classic 50 watt.... Just because its foolish to own 50 watts of tube.

2. Peavey Classic 30 in tweed, then Black.

3. The Delta Blues.
