Constitutional Carry and 2A Sanctuary State

on Monday afternoon, after sitting on HB43 for a month, the Chairman of the JUD-B committee, Senator Gary Smith, was inundated with emails crying for HB43 to be reviewed by the Committee, and Lo and Behold, it was added to the agenda. It was clear that Senator Smith did not want to move forward on the bill, but he heard our cries. Not only was the bill put on the agenda, it was approved and forwarded to the full senate with a recommendation that it be passed.
We were also successful in JUD-C Committee with the Constitutional Carry bill, HB37, getting the sign of approval to move forward to the full senate with a recommendation for passage.
A couple of other bills of interest were passed also: Rep. Blake Miguez’s bill for free Gun-Safety video on the State Police website, and lowering the wait time to restore gun rights on non-violent felonies from 10 years to 5 years.
Four more victories to add to our trophy case!! All-in-all, a great day of success, and it is thanks to you folks who got the message out to the Chairman as well as all of the Committee members. They surely know now, that we care about these things.

What is the plan to get constitutional carry past the governor? Even with a veto session it didn't happen.

How is the repub assembly in LA going to get the balls to pass anything your gov vetoes?

It'll be tough
JBE bought votes last year to stop the veto override, and now all of that is public record with a pissed off constituency.
It may be a little easier this time

oh, I am suppose to have HOPE? I support the cause but my faith and hope have all dried up.

JBE will hold the party line. It's his only hope to maintain a political career after his term is up.

Gary Smith is a giant piece of work.
Is there a link to the vote buyout of the veto override?
I hate Louisiana politics so much, I have to stay to help fix it.

I'd sacrifice this 10000000x just to get the concealed carry bill passed.

Are you saying you would sacrifice this as in you would concede this point because you disagree or are you saying you would get rid of this bill to pass CC? Because honestly, if you are a felon, especially non-violent, you should have your rights restored when you get out. You served your time. If you are too dangerous to have your rights, you shouldn't be out of jail.

I think he’s basically saying he cares about felon restoration rights about 1/10000000 as much as he cares about constitutional carry.

100% agree. The removal of the ability to own and carry a firearm was NEVER, I repeat NEVER a penalty for a criminal conviction in the USA until progressives came to power and passed the draconian Firearms Act of 1939.
Anyone who believes the mere act of conviction for ANY crime not involving an actual firearm is misinformed and not using logic.

I think both issues are very important. Guy gets locked up for barely any weed or something stupid and people think he is a societal threat? It's wrong. Both should be supported and passed. While one may benefit us non-felons, imagine if you couldnt own a gun just because some stupid cop stopped you for some dumb bullshite.

Should be a misdemeanor in most jurisdications.

I dont really think of a felony as some stupid bullshite. Arson is a "non-violent" felony, as is illegal drug manufacturing, distribution of illegal drugs is a nonviolent felony.
I also didnt know "stupid cops" dole out sentences, thought that was the job of the judge with the charges being brought by the DA's office.

We're so dumb... I mean really? Wait until after another school shooting so the left is all riled up against all evil guns?
Posted on 5/27/22 at 9:50 am to kengel2
You should be free to use any drug you want I don’t care what it is.
