I had no idea this even existed until yesterday, and I am only on episode two. Being a massive Michael Connelly fan, I know how this story plays out. Anyone else read the books and feel like they completely miscast the role of Haller?

Not just because of the film adaptation, it just feels like an awkward interpretation of the character. Maybe its more on directing than acting? I don’t know, this doesn’t feel like Haller.

He grew on me by the end when he gets some swagger back. It's probably been 10-12 years since I read The Brass Verdict and I don't remember them playing the trauma up as much as they did in this season but I guess it feels right.

I've read the books, albeit a while ago. In some ways, McConaughey was better, but in some ways I think this Haller is better. I do think it's more directing than acting. Book Haller seems a little more slick and sleazy, a little less always do the right thing, although show Haller has that. It just doesn't come through as well. Haller should be much like Bosch. Rough around the edges, but always willing to do whatever he needs to for the results to be correct, no matter how he gets there. Physically, show Haller is more accurate.
