I literally grew up in the one on McKeen so when they moved to the North 18th spot last year I was taken for a loop but honestly it was as good as I remember. I guess it must take being born in the 318 to just have automatic taste buds tuned in to like Johnny's.

While on the subject of certain areas of Monroe being off limits. I think that area might be stretching past Desiard to anywhere between Louisville to Forsythe and yes that includes all of the Garden District. That area has become sketchy to say the least and there are some really nice homes in and around Neville, especially by the levee. However, I wouldn't take a house over there if it was free.

Melvyn's has been on a freefall for basically the last 20 years. Portico/Trio's/Genusa's/Levee Grill were my go to spots when I moved back to Monroe in 2018 with Cormiers for crawfish in the Spring and crabs in the Fall.

Doe's/Parish/Warehouse were for more upscale nights out. Then there is the places over by ULM. I honestly think if you can't find somewhere you like to eat in Monroe you are a culinary dipshite with no taste buds or a social idiot.

Pretty much since moving, eh? I hate to hear that.

Wow! I had no idea about that. That and the Island Drive-Little Cuba-Deborah Drive areas were the places to be when I was growing up.

I was up there over the weekend and was struck by the numerous empty stores on North 18th.

Agreed. Parish is the best in the area for me. He’s for sure a great chef.

Best catfish is at Catfish Cabin and Catfish Charlie’s. Cabin does awesome whole fish and uses a cornflour coating. Charlie’s uses cornmeal. Hush puppies at the Cabin are excellent.

Best fried shrimp in the entire region are at Doe’s.

Himalayan Cafe is fantastic food but don’t be in a hurry.

Trio’s has a fried catfish lunch special on Friday’s. Lately if I want fried catfish I get it then.

Warehouse has good fried catfish as well and probably the best hush puppies that I’ve eaten.

Go to Flying Tiger Brewery and get a burger from Enoch's Irish pub. Day two, grab a brew and pizza from Flying Hearts.

Then leave.

Worked in Many for an entire summer one year and seriously considered moving to El Salvador afterwards.
