I think this is a silly idea, but at the same time, those who dispute the notion that professional sports, at a very large level, are as much about entertainment as they are about competition or achieving athletic excellence are also silly IMO.

And the product is not entertaining right now. And it’s not just about everyone throwing heat, although fans have always gravitated toward heat. IMO it’s why so many fans think Nolan Ryan, who IMO was the most entertaining pitcher of all time, is the GOAT when he ain’t even close.

I’ve said here before about analytics, the other great whipping boy for fans, they are designed to maximize the mathematical probability of a successful outcome. The problem is that maximizing the mathematical probability of a successful outcome can mean the product is less entertaining, and again you can’t escape that component of things.
