My understanding is physicists and engineers know it can happen. The biggest issue is the fuel problem. You’d need so much fuel to get up to speed and maintain it, that you can’t make a ship big enough

Any physicist worth a damn does not believe in warp speed. They know that matter cannot travel at or faster than light. Basic physics.
