Starting on May 16 it will be optional for travelers to wear face coverings
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) announced on Wednesday in a press release that starting on May 16 face masks will no longer be mandatory in airports and during flights.

During the past few weeks, European countries have been removing COVID-19-related mandates —65% of Europe is already open to Americans without restrictions— and, since March, many airlines have already removed the mask mandate, including large European carriers such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, and KLM.

In total, 27 countries in Europe have completely dropped travel restrictions, including top destinations like the United Kingdom, Greece, Ireland, Madeira, Switzerland, and Denmark.

Sucks that I still need a test to go to Portugal though. Worse is coming home since I need to get a test one day before my flight on a Sunday and it's during a holiday in Latvia so who know how that will go.

“We are optimistic this requirement will be lifted by summer, so we can get the benefit of all the international in-bound travelers,” Christine Duffy, chair of the U.S. Travel Association and president of Carnival Cruise Lines, told Yahoo Finance at the recent Milken Institute annual conference in Beverly Hills. “The Commerce Dept. has been working closely with the travel industry and the administration is aware of the issue.”

For an administration that is under water on almost every single issue, you think they would take an easy win here. Who is going to be upset if the rest to return restriction is lifted? Maybe the telehealth testing companies but other than that? The people still living in Covid fear-they aren’t traveling internationally anyway.

The inbound testing is designed to make life difficult for privileged or ‘wealthy’ people who can afford to travel internationally.

Learned yesterday that flight crews are exempt from the testing requirement because of ScIeNcE reasons.
