I have two of the Ecobee Lite units and I've never had an issue. Of course I bought them new and configured them myself so I don't have retarded settings from a previous owner. I'd wait until you figure out how they work before you condemn them. I've had homes with several different kinds of smart thermostats including Honeywells and these Ecobee units are better. Trouble free going on 3 years now. I rarely touch them as I mostly use the app on my phone. The sensors you are pissed at are actually the best part of the whole setup. They are optional so you don't have to use them if you don't want but they let you place the wireless sensor where you spend most of your time so the thermostats are doing their job based off of where you are vs down the hall where the temperature is likely different. Change the batteries and they are good to go.

+1 to this. My office is full of tech equipment and gets hot as shite compared to the rest of the house. When I'm working in there the motion detector picks me up and the thermostat compensates for that room. I also have one in the living room near the kitchen which helps during cooking.
