But late May is firmly summer, so not a surprise we get high readings then.

Right now, these 90+ days are unusual. Not unheard of, but unusual.

Also, is there a reason discussion of it being a little hot turned into a global warming thread?

There are a few LA record highs for May in mid-May. 2015 saw a similar heat wave around this time for the state.

Bunkie takes the win for record low in May at 32° on May 7, 1992. If the OT were around then, I bet some folks would have been bitching about how cold it was.
