Dead snake ID, please

I was torn between baby moccasin and rat snake. Decided to err on caution. Was directly in front of my door.

Water snake

Looks like a diamond-backed water snake but the photo is really small and I’m on my phone.

My default answer is not to kill a snake. I've mistaken a few non venomous ones for venomous (especially water snakes) but never the other way around.
