I informed my current employer in March, that I would be leaving in July-August time frame, to allow them the opportunity to go through the hiring process and have time for me to train the new person.
4 months notice seemed like a fair amount t of time. I have worked for this company for 12 years, and am keeping my end if the deal up, perform my job everyday without fail.
They have been known to withhold people's vacation time at the end of employment, so I am taking 2 days every 2 weeks to burn through what I have left so not to lose the days, it's considered part of my compensation package.
Also, it's been 12 years since I submitted a resume, interviewed or even looked for employment.........shite has changed a lot!

Yes, but i promise you it is far, far easier to look for a job- and you have way more leverage- now than in 2010 .
