I dont know if i still really agree with this.
At this point the Pels could theoretically package and trade Zion and if done right, still remain or obtain true contender status.
That said, I think the tension is 15% true and 85% fan and media driven projection, wishful thinking, and hyper cynicism. If Zion likes his teammates, is winning championships as a Pel, the team still has a bright future, he'll be here IMO. One look at him on the bench through these games and it's clear he is having a blast and is invested. And his videos show he wants to be helping THIS team.
I think it also helps that a lot of this next generation is seeing in real time the deeply critical flaws and failures of superstar pressured team building. While well run organizations built from the ground up(mostly) are the ones predominately thriving: Suns, Bucks, Celtics, Grizzlies, Warriors, Minny, Pelicans, Hawks. And notably with superstars that stuck with their drafted teams: Tatum, Booker, Giannis, Curry, Embiid. While the strong arming superstars and journeyman mercenaries are struggling: KD, Lebron, AD, Kyrie, Simmons.

I don't believe a lot of the media driven Zion crap.
And if some of it is true, and Zion looks at this team and this playoff run and our future assets, and the crowds the past few games and says "I want to be a Knick."
Then frick him, I don't want a loser like that. Have him tell us that so we can trade him for a haul and move on.

It shows he is jovial while watching the others beat odds. Hard to say if he's "invested" in this team at this point.

Of course he'd be happy winning a championship. I don't think it would make any difference to him if he won one in N.O. or somewhere else. Outside of LA, NY, Chi, and Boston then the rest of the NBA cities are interchable if winning.

thriving is fun, but do you want to win a championship?
